Honest Company – Hand Soap & Laundry Soap

The hand soap smells great, I order the lemongrass one. The only complaint I have is that it doesn’t lather. I know in my head this doesn’t affect it’s effectiveness but I still miss the lather. It’s psychological. Also, I prefer the scents from Rocky Mountain Soap Company.

The laundry soap from The Honest Company worked well. I did not have any problems with it. My clothes came out just as clean as when I use my regular natural detergent. No one had any skin reactions, which is a biggie in my house. So I would have to give this product a passing review. Out of all the home cleaning products I have tried from The Honest Company, I would have to say this is the best one!

That’s it for my reviews of The Honest Company. I haven’t purchased any other products because of the surcharge on products as I described in an early post!

The Honest Company Samples

I received my sample packs from The Honest Company. (excuse the horrible pictures)

The first one I tried out was the diapers and wipes. The diapers have cute patterns on them and work great. I love the wipes. I would considering using their diapers and wipes….. except for shipping costs (explanation below)

In the essentials bundle sample pack, I received laundry soap, hand soap, face & body lotion, shampoo & body wash, and healing balm. I haven’t had a chance to use any of them except the face & body lotion (see review below). As I use them I shall post my thoughts on them.

I didn’t have anyone to give the baby & toddler multi-powder as it is for babies 6 months+ and I now have a 1 month old and I also don’t have anyone to give the kids multi-vitamin to either as it is for kids 2 and older. So I can’t review these two products but can say that they sent me 1 dose of each of these products so it would be hard to test and review anyways. I guess you could see if your child liked the taste based on one portion. I’ll see if I can get the vitamins reviewed by a friend with a child and let you know what they think!

After receiving the sample packs, I ordered an essentials bundle, as I wanted to try out additional products, more baby wipes and had received a discount email. In it I received the hand soap, laundry soap, hand sanitizer, face & body lotion, and baby wipes.

I have so far used¬†the hand sanitizer and the face & body lotion. I do not like these products, it is my personal opinion, others may diagree. I find the hand sanitizer does not evaporate. It is thick and sticky and leaves a film on my hands. The hand & body lotion is slimy and doesn’t hydrate my hands well enough. I don’t mind it as a body lotion so will continue to use it for that, but I will not order this product again as I have many other hand & body lotions that I like quite a bit more.

The one thing I found out after was that there is a catch! I live in Canada so am charged an international surcharge of 25% making it quite a bit more to ship these products to Canada. I have received an email offer from the Honest Company giving me 40% or 50% if I ordered a bundle so it was more affordable but without the discount I would not order as you can find plenty or natural products in Canada for much less.

That’s my review of The Honest Company for now, stay tuned for the further product reviews of additional items!

Outstanding October

On October 23, 2013 we welcomed T into our lives. She was born at 9:30pm and weighed 10 pounds.

2013-10-25 14.00.34

Being a mom to a new born again comes with all kinds of new excitement and challenges.

It’s a journey I’m glad I get to go on again. K is now 14 so it is like starting over ūüôā K is being Twitter for Halloween this year, her friend is being Instagram! They made their own costumes, talk about creative!

In my natural journey trying to find natural baby products, I stumbled upon The Honest Company. I have signed up to receive their free trial and am excited for it to arrive so I can decide if this is something I would like to pursue. I shall keep you all updated on how I like the products, whether it’s convenient and if I find it worth the cost!

Being Natural

Being Natural is hard. The labels are confusing and so is the information out there.

I recently read the book Ecoholic by Adria Vasil and thought WOW I now have the information to be an informed consumer. Also I loved the book because it was Canadian, so I recognised products within and was able to actually find the stores and products talked about in the book! All of her books are great and highly informative!

But after reading the book doing research online and watching a few documentaries. I was more confused than ever!

Two websites that have helped to make everything easier to figure things out are

http://www.goodguide.com/ and http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

And a page with a whole list of helpful tools from Adria Vasil’s website

http://www.ecoholic.ca/kick-ass-websites/

I can now easily search products, while I am shopping to find out whether they are eco-friendly and live up to my standards.

There has been the odd product lines like Live Clean¬†(If anyone has info on this company it would be greatly¬†appreciated!),¬†which I can’t seem to find on these databases so I am left to my own devices to determine whether they are good or not, but by and large these two websites make wading through the assault of products claiming to be eco-friendly much easier!
