Honest Company – Hand Soap & Laundry Soap

The hand soap smells great, I order the lemongrass one. The only complaint I have is that it doesn’t lather. I know in my head this doesn’t affect it’s effectiveness but I still miss the lather. It’s psychological. Also, I prefer the scents from Rocky Mountain Soap Company.

The laundry soap from The Honest Company worked well. I did not have any problems with it. My clothes came out just as clean as when I use my regular natural detergent. No one had any skin reactions, which is a biggie in my house. So I would have to give this product a passing review. Out of all the home cleaning products I have tried from The Honest Company, I would have to say this is the best one!

That’s it for my reviews of The Honest Company. I haven’t purchased any other products because of the surcharge on products as I described in an early post!

Cloth Diapers Part 2

So………. I quit the cloth diapering. Mainly for my sanity and my babies sanity. They leaked constantly and provided no wicking so she was always wet and I was always changing. Multiple diapers in a 1/2 hour was just too much.

I was not keen on laundering my own diapers and so I decided I was just not cut out for cloth diapers. We have been using disposable diapers for a few months now.

I don’t know why the diapers didn’t work for us. All I know is they leaked like crazy and I wouldn’t recommend Happy Nappy as a diaper service. They gave me great service until I cancelled and wanted clarification on how final billing worked and how much it would cost, then they stopped returning emails and came to pick up their diapers.

At first I felt like I had failed somehow and wasn’t being green enough. Now I am just so happy those days are behind me. Just saying I’m happy, my baby’s happy and this means a better life for us!

Cloth Diapers – Happy Nappy Diaper Service

Cloth diapers have so far been a love hate relationship. When I was pregnant I knew I wanted to use cloth diapers but wasn’t sure I wanted all the work and washing that went with them. So my internet search began for a diaper service in town! I found Happy Nappy! Things got off to a rocky start with the diaper service, my baby was born early so I had no cloth diapers at home! But Happy Nappy quickly remedied this and I had cloth diapers a few days after my daughter was born. Happy Nappy had tried to deliver diapers the day I had my baby so I would have them for her original due date but couldn’t find my house. Happy Nappy usually delivers the diapers early so you have everything you need when baby arrives!

Now I had very little knowledge of cloth diapers! I probably should have done more research and read more reviews! The cloth diapers from Happy Nappy are hand made and not all the same. So when you receive diapers some are bigger than others as they are stretched out more from use, I guess. This made some of the diapers too big and some just right. Then came the next hurdle it was impossible to keep the diapers off the umbilical stump so I had to switch back to disposables until that had healed and that took 2 weeks! So I was paying for a diaper service I wasn’t actually using, this is good information to have if you are just starting out with a diaper service!

I like cloth diapers as I have an endless supply! See part of my cloth diaper stash  ——> 2013-11-22 01.00.06

Figuring out how many I need each week has been a challenge as last week I ran out of diapers and had to go back to disposables again. So I ordered 10 more than I think I need for the week and have higher hopes this week.

Another thing I never knew was my baby doesn’t like them as she is wet, she doesn’t enjoy being wet at all so cries right away when she soils them. this is not a huge deal but she does wake up more during sleep, which has its down falls.

Oh and remember when I said the diapers are hand made and some seem to be different that others……well I have found with certain ones she pees out of them. I am not sure how she’s doing it but I am avoiding this type until I make it through the rest in my pile of diapers, hoping that the end of this week will not result in needing to change an entire outfit with each diaper change this week.

All in all I am liking the cloth diapers and a committed to using them, but it probably would have been beneficial to know then what I know now about my cloth diaper journey as I would have done things a bit differently. Like starting the diaper service at 3 weeks old and reading up on cloth!

If you are thinking of using cloth diapers, I would recommend Happy Nappy, they have been great at helping me along the way and have been there to answer any questions, concerns or changes to my orders that I might have. They are always prompt and polite!

Don’t forget to mention that I (Alicia Newton), referred you as Happy Nappy has a referral program!

Being Natural

Being Natural is hard. The labels are confusing and so is the information out there.

I recently read the book Ecoholic by Adria Vasil and thought WOW I now have the information to be an informed consumer. Also I loved the book because it was Canadian, so I recognised products within and was able to actually find the stores and products talked about in the book! All of her books are great and highly informative!

But after reading the book doing research online and watching a few documentaries. I was more confused than ever!

Two websites that have helped to make everything easier to figure things out are and

And a page with a whole list of helpful tools from Adria Vasil’s website

I can now easily search products, while I am shopping to find out whether they are eco-friendly and live up to my standards.

There has been the odd product lines like Live Clean (If anyone has info on this company it would be greatly appreciated!), which I can’t seem to find on these databases so I am left to my own devices to determine whether they are good or not, but by and large these two websites make wading through the assault of products claiming to be eco-friendly much easier!

Curly Girl Handbook & Deva Curls Products

I read Curly Girl Handbook a while back and had implemented some of their curly hair styling tips and tricks and have had great success with them.  I recommend this book to anyone with curly hair who wants to go natural.  So after reading Curly Girl, I recently tried Deva Curls products Deva Care No-Poo and Deva Care One Condition.  I love these products.  I have no complaints.  They clean my hair wonderfully and the conditioner works great!  This is a great everyday hair care product (by everyday I do not mean literally everyday). I would recommend this product to anyone with curly hair.  They are definitly on my hit list currently of products to try.  I am now going to try some of there styling products.  I will give you the low down on what I think.
