The journey so far.

I started my journey awhile back but never really stuck with it. I am on my 9th day of eating healthy. I have lost 2 kgs ūüôā I am so excited at my achievement. Even though I want to throw it all out the window and just eat cake.

My journey has been easy on some days and very difficult on others. I am learning that I must plan my meals and make sure they are filling so that I am not hungry in between meals. Making my lunches the night before so I am not rushed in the morning and opt to just buy lunch. I also must keep busy, if I have nothing to do I start to look for things to snack on.

A big key to healthy snacking for me is having healthy veggies available. Cut up carrots and celery or fresh fruit, ready to go in the fridge or in my lunch bag at work means me winning my battle with staying on track during the day.

The tool I am using for all of this is My Fitness Pal. It’s the first site I have found that I have not be frustrated with the food tracking. This site makes it uber easy to track your food. My favorite option is the scanner on the mobile app. Point and click and your food is entered!

Another tool I am contemplating is Body Media it integrates with My Fitness Pal and tracks the calories you burn each day. It has a built-in heart rate monitor and tracks your sleep! If anyone has a Body Media and would like to share their experience, I would love to hear it!

My meals for this week are planned and groceries are bought, my gym bag is packed! So I have already set myself up to win this week.

I have 21kgs to go! I can do this!

On a journey!

Today marks the first day of my weightless journey. It’s time to be honest and upfront with myself about my weight.

I want to lose 23kgs and need to lose at least 15kgs. Why?

Because I want to be healthier. I want to be in shape.

Because I need to get my food under control, including my food intolerances.

I am using myfitnesspal because it’s an easy tool and one I’ve used the before, the ease in usage is a big selling point for me. Often food and fitness trackers require a lot of effort and to be honest if it’s difficult or takes time, I’ll drop it like a hot potato.

So here goes, I’ll keep you updated as the weeks go by and I’ll be brutally honest about my struggles and triumphs.

P.S. after seeing fit bit on myfitnesspal I am more than tempted to buy it . I may  need to make it my reward for doing well!

Hair Product Review Alert

Okay so I haven’t actually used the product yet, but I bought it and it’s in my home. ¬†So I sit here admiring the package, but alas I washed my hair this morning. So I will have to wait. ¬†The product is abba – pure performance hair care. I bought the Pure Curl Shampoo. ¬†It has lemongrass and orange peel oil in it and it smells nice like lemongrass.

Anyways my family is gone for the evening – well J for the weekend and so I am alone. ¬†Also my car is broken again so I have no car this weekend. ¬†Well, I have a car but it is standard shift so I can attempt to teach myself to drive…….which I will probably attempt tomorrow and Sunday, but for the most part I shall walk and bike every where (mainly because I am scared of hills and how do I get out of my neighbourhood in the rivervalley without going up hills ūüė¶ ).

Tomorrow I plan to go the library (walk) and the movies (walk). ¬†I’m going to see Bad Teacher, I’ll let you know how it is. ¬†Maybe I’ll go to work out (ride J’s bike). ¬†Wow I would be in such good shape if I didn’t have a car. ¬†But for tonight I plan to veg-out and do nothing because of the dark clouds, the rain approaching and the fact that I am tired.

P.S. my herb garden is doing great!!!

Fried Rice.

Tonight I made fried rice for dinner. I added carrots, corn, green beans, purple cabbage, shallots and peas. ¬†Seasoned w/ braggs, ginger, black pepper and garlic. ¬†I tastes amazing and has No Nightshades ūüôā

I have been feeling kinda down because of my wrist. ¬†I can’t work out. ¬†I¬†definitely¬†need to do more running/walking in the neighbourhood. ¬†So I keep my activity levels up.

I found two amazing websites in the last two days.

One for curly hair http://www.naturallycurly.com/¬†, Naturally Curly has great tips and tricks on how to keep your curly hair looking it’s best. ¬†There are also forums where you can talk to other curlies and trade curl secrets!

And the other for people with food allergies http://www.cookingallergyfree.com/, it is filled with great recipes and what makes it so great is you put in your food allergies at the beginning and it only shows you recipes that do not have your allergies.  This site has a wealth of information and has helped me to realise no nightshades is not so bad once you get used to cooking with all the other wonderful foods available to you.

On another note I have given up on Live Clean’s Purple Jewel Conditioner. ¬†It just doesn’t do the trick. ¬†It is a horrible detangler. ¬†When I use it clumps of my hair come out from the tangles, so it is not detangling. ¬†So for me, Purple Jewel Conditioner is a no go. ¬†The shampoo is okay though but definitely not may favorite. ¬†I had hopes for this product but am afraid it just doesn’t cut it for curly hair. ¬†Also everyone with straight hair out there don’t let this discourage you from trying some of the other products in their line. ¬†I personally like their Exotic Nectar – Argan Oil and Shine Cream.

The last month!

I bought a fish, his name is Sashimi he sits on my desk at work ūüôā

I finished a 30 day challenge at Curves!  I worked out 3 times a week for 30 days!

I’m slowing winding up all my volunteer activities! ¬†May is my last month to get all my volunteer work in check! ¬†I will not volunteer a million hours after this. ¬†I am taking the summer off and going to try something new in September. ¬†I am going to volunteer w/ Girl Guides. K is a girl guide and she is moving to pathfinders next year and has just joined an awesome group called TREX. ¬†The adventure-based program includes camping, canoeing and hiking. ¬†K has the opportunity to go to Utah next spring break with her group!

Elimination diet is on day 18! ¬†I’m doing it! ¬†Hopefully by the end of this we will get to the bottom of my digestive issues.

I’ve started using Live Clean purple jewel. ¬†I’ll let everyone know how it works out!

I participated in Earth Hour and did my part to make the world a better place!  Remember Earth Hour can be fun.  Ever tried scrabble by candle light or a game with the kids in the dark or go for an evening walk!

I signed up for boot camp and started today. ¬†I am dead tired but feel good and will not be able to make it up the stairs tomorrow at work but I’m on my way to a fitter, healthier ME! ¬†I’m excited for April and everything it will bring!

Updates!

Just a few quick updates

1st Update – I would just like to give a quick alert to the Vanilla Candy Cane chapstick that I bought from Rocky Mountain Soap Co. ¬†It BURNS. ¬†Just an FYI if you consider buying it. ¬†It is quite strong. ¬†I like it, but others may not, my daughter doesn’t like hers.

2nd Update – I love Curves! ¬†It’s been great. ¬†I have been going for a week and really enjoy the program. ¬†I think this is the boost to fitness I was looking for! ¬†I highly recommend Curves to any woman wanting to do strength training in a controlled atmosphere. ¬†They are extremely helpful with getting your started on the machines and helping you with your posture and technique. ¬†The atmosphere is very welcoming and everyone is friendly. ¬†They have also just introduced Curves w/ Zumba so I will be trying this out in the next couple weeks and will let you all know if I love it or hate it!

3rd Update – I am on day 10 of the 21 day vegan kickstart and have made so many new recipes and found a few that I will incorporate for years to come. ¬†It’s been a great program to keep me focused on my fitness/health goals and has pushed my out of my comfort zone with foods. ¬†My favorites so far have been the BBQ Style Portobello Mushrooms and the Creamy Broccoli Soup. ¬†Tonight one of the dishes on the menu was¬†Farmhouse Salad, it was quick easy and tasty.

That’s my updates for tonight! ¬†I haven’t started my new hair¬†regimen¬†but will be sure to alert you when I do!

21 Day Vegan Kickstart & My New Product in 2011

So this year in an effort to get healthier, I am participating in the 21 Day Vegan Kickstart. ¬†I am on Day 3 and it’s going great. ¬†I am following their meal plans and loving the new recipes I have tried so far. ¬†Tonight I made curried lentil soup and couscous confetti salad (I did sub in quinoa for couscous in each of these recipes) two new recipes and both were wonderful!

I also have a free one week pass to Curves, so I will try it out and let you know what I think!  My first appointment is tomorrow @ 5pm.

I have decided on the product I will try next, it is Macadamia Oil!

Winter Solstice… Among other things

This years winter solstice also included a solar eclipse!!!!  We drove out to watch the eclipse from a field.  It was beautiful!  It was a great way to celebrate winter solstice this year! {Picture Below}

I have now been using Curls for a month and I am still loving it.  I did go out and purchase more products from this line.  I now am using.

  1. Pure Curls Organic Clarifying Shampoo
  2. Curlicious Curls Cleansing Cream
  3. Coconut Sublime Organic Conditioner
  4. Quenched Curls Organic Moisturizer/ 2nd Day Curl Refresh
  5. Curl Gel’ les’c

I may still try the Curls Milkshake or Souffle. ¬†I like the way CURLS smells except for step 3 the Quenched Curls Organic Moisturizer/ 2nd Day Curl Refresh, I also do not like the way this product spray’s out of the bottle. ¬†It is too thick to mist my hair. ¬†I am planning to add water to see if this helps with the application process as I found this helped with the Blended Beauty’s¬†Kick for Curls. ¬†I am also going to try Blended Beauty’s cleansing conditioner again as I am leaning towards the fact that I like this cleansing conditioner more than the CURLS cleansing cream. ¬†I enjoyed Blended Beauty because it made my hair silky soft, which is something I am not experiencing with CURLS.

I still plan to try out a new products. ¬†I would like to try the following lines. ¬†Throw me a comment if you have any advice on the products I plan to use in the future. ¬†Here’s a short list of products to come.

  • Aveda – Be Curly
  • Macadamia Natural Oil
  • Live Clean – Purple Jewel Wave Enhance

Also just so everyone is aware I always contact the companies before I use their products to confirm that their line does not contain any of the ingredients that I am avoiding and that they do not test on animals. ¬†{Also read the label’s ūüėČ } So….. something may make my list but I may not end up testing it if it does not meet my criteria. ¬†I will let you know if this happens.

I haven’t been blogging regularly but plan to step it up now that the holidays are over! ¬†I also plan to track my weight loss journey as well as post the books I read and love. ¬†And as always small bits and pieces of the things that are important to me or affecting my life!

Below is a picture of the Lunar Eclipse taken by my friend Leo Balanean!

Isn’t it¬†magnificent!
